Medical Technician

Duties include but are not limited to:
-Demonstrate excellent customer service in person greeting patient, drawing specimens, and conversing with patient over phone -Demonstrate excellent teamwork within lab draw area and with multiple departments, as well as outside consumers bringing specimens to the lab -Identify all patients with two identifiers to assure the accuracy of the specimen collated and document collection appropriately -Perform phlebotomy procedures following a sequence of steps approved for sample collection -Attend to the patients while in their care during the phlebotomy procedure -Determine the need and initiates a Medical Emergency and assist in clinic rapid responses -Follow the Laboratory procedures for collecting specimens and follow regulatory guidelines for collecting timed specimens -Receive requests for testing and specimens into the laboratory and verify the accuracy of packaging, labeling and completeness of the request -Receive and quality check all specimens that are sent to commercial reference laboratories for testing and process into computer system -Perform a limited amount of patient testing which includes, but is not limited to urine pregnancy testing, bleeding times, Fecal Occult Blood testing, I-Stat, Troponins, and/or the Iris -Identify unusual test results or discrepancies/conditions that can be erroneous results -Comply with all Medical Center policies and procedures regarding safety practices -Assess the validity of a process, recognizing common environmental or other considerations that could affect the process and specimen quality. Assist in process improvement -Check patient and specimen into computer system accurately -Processing specimens to include spinning and pipetting as per guidelines prior to packaging for transport to main lab -Perform other related duties as assigned Work Schedule:

Experience:
Six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-03). General experience is (a) any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (b) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Qualifying specialized experience is documented experience (a) technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position (Medical Technician - Phlebotomist) to be filled. (This experience must be reflected in your resume to be credited to your rating.) OR Education:
Successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of a full-time training course of approximately a year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, in addition, included supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and the treatment of patients; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. The position requires a high level of contact with patients who may be uncooperative, combative or infected with HIV, or a Hepatitis virus. The position requires coordination of timed tests and coordination of phlebotomy/processing operations in the absence of the supervisor. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
