Checks hearing aids as they arrive from the manufacturer to ensure that all ordered components are present and operational Provides primary level maintenance to include trouble-shooting and repair of hearing aids and accessories received Assesses hearing aid and accessory function and fit through listening checks, electro-acoustic evaluation, visual inspection, changing of batteries, cleaning of electrical contacts, removal of impacted cerumen from the aid, replacing ear mold tubing, thin tubing, domes and receivers, and inspecting and replacing cords Make all preparations, packing and shipping the instrument to manufacturer for repairs or returns Enter information into the computer to ensure that hearing aid and/or accessories are properly tracked during repair process Stay abreast on new concepts, materials, fabrication and modification procedures and components utilized in the field of hearing and speech industry Participate in continuing education and related in-service training Explain upcoming tests or procedures; position the patient for, and performs a variety of challenging procedures such as ear mold impressions, hearing aid fitting and/or adjustments and various testing processes Perform a full range of multifaceted procedures which require the ability to act independently Remove excess cerumen per service policy and procedure; takes ear mold impressions of the patients ear, following careful examination of the ear for contraindications Performs a full range of specialized tests or non-routine diagnostic or treatment procedures requiring numerous phases an approaches Provide triage and follow-up of patients; provide one-on-one instruction regarding optimal use and proper methods of care for complex instruments, devices and accessories Document interactions, patient and other vital information in the electronic medical record in the form of observational, telephone and administrative notes via Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) or other appropriate software; maintains clinical records in accordance with ASPS, health care center and VA requirements; ensures records are current and completes reports per established standards Enter ROES orders for hearing and accessory repairs Maintain patient care instruments and equipment in proper working order, perform equipment calibrations, cleaning, and set-up; determines technical factors, set controls, adjusting equipment as indicated Entry of workload information and collection, tabulation and analysis of the patient observations and surveys, workload reports, quality assurance measures and reports Work Schedule:

The duties of this position require periods of sitting, bending and walking, with extended periods of standing. There may be eye strain associated with significant work accomplished with use of computers. Patients must frequently be positioned/repositioned for procedures. Periodically, equipment may need to be moved. Occasional patient transport may require the pushing of wheelchairs. Fine motor skills are also required in the modification and cleaning/repairing hearing aids and accessories. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes but are not limited to:
Knowledge of medical terminology with the ability to convey information, and enter medical notes into electric medical record. Skill and ability to communicate verbally and in writing with staff and patients. Knowledge of computer software programs equivalent to Microsoft Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word processing to prepare various reports, graphs and maintain/manipulate databases and spreadsheets. Display knowledge of infection control processes and universal precautions, skill and ability to operate hand held tool. OR EDUCATION:
Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-06 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
