1.
Support HUSD Mission, Core Purpose and Values.
2.
Leads District efforts to tell its story to external audiences through the use of traditional media, social media, blogging, video and the District magazine.
3.
Collaborates with other District leaders to design and implement strategic communication plans in support of the District.
4.
Proactively identifies opportunities and seeks out story ideas and news from faculty and staff across the District.
5.
Writes and edits news articles, features, media pitches, press releases, op-eds, talking points and social media content to engage desired audience and enhance Higley's brand.
6.
Manages online news site and district wide website; generates timely content and evaluates analytics to increase traffic and readership.
Proactively updates website with assistance from school sites and department representatives.
7.
Works with news media to secure positive news coverage for the District, while cultivating relationships with reporters, editors and producers.
Responds to public records requests with timely and accurate information.
8.
Maintains and monitors Higley's social media accounts for robust, timely content and maximum engagement.
9.
Maintains an extensive database of District facts, rankings and other noteworthy achievements.
10.
Serves as spokesperson for the District as well as provides support and coaching to District employees in preparing for media interviews.
Copyedits and/or ghostwrites for senior administrators, as requested.
11.
Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and marketing plan aligned with the school district's strategic goals and values.
Identify target audiences and tailor communication strategies to engage and inform stakeholders effectively.
12.
Follows local and national news stories and trending topics for story ideas and for context on current issues in education.
Serve as the primary media contact for the school district, public records requests, inquiries, press releases, and interviews.
13.
Assists with crisis communication support for the District, including working with the Emergency Management Team.
Available outside of the District's business hours as needed.
14.
Oversee the school district's brand identity and ensure consistent branding across all communication materials.
Maintain and update the district's style guide to ensure uniformity in all written and visual materials.
15.
Maintains confidentiality of all District business.
16.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
Preferably in public relations, communication, journalism, marketing, or related field.
Experience in supervising employees.
Three to five years of experience in Public Relations, Communications, Broadcasting, Advertising or Communication Arts.
The candidate will support and model high expectations of accountability in all responsibilities of this position.
Demonstrated experience in working with the news media.
Experience in managing social media projects and creating eye-catching content.
The District anticipates that the person filling this position will need to be available throughout the workday and, on some occasions, after regular work hours.
Therefore, as a condition of employment, the incumbent is expected to be available by cell (District provided).
Experience in writing news and feature articles within tight deadlines (published clips/portfolio required).
Experience in coordinating social media projects and working within deadlines.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends, as needed.
Must be able to travel to multiple campuses and locations and have a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation and proof of automobile insurance.

Experience in communications or public relations in education.

Demonstrated mastery of software used to produce written and promotional materials, such as Microsoft Publisher and Adobe products.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES:
Excellent news and feature writing skills.
Proven ability to write quickly under time constraints.
Strong editing, fact-checking and proofreading skills required .
Knowledge of the principles and practices of strategic public relations management.
Knowledge of emerging technologies, multimedia and social media in driving customer engagement.
Skill in the use of personal computers, general office software, and social media applications.
Demonstrated strong, effective written and verbal skills.
Demonstrated networking and interpersonal skills with diverse internal and external constituencies.
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize changing needs, and make appropriate decisions, while meeting tight deadlines.
Ability to synthesize complex and occasionally technical information to develop relevant messages and stories.
Ability to lead, coach and evaluate assigned staff.
Demonstrated ability to use discretion and judgment in handling confidential information.
Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student and employee populations.
